ABSTRACT

There is a strong commonality among many entrepreneurs that sets them on a path to establish their own company rather than work for someone else. This trait may emerge early on, or it may surface more gradually over time-sometimes after success in a traditional corporate environment. For Robbins, the entrepreneurial catalyst was sparked after he worked for four banking institutions. Although they provided invaluable experiences, in the end they proved disappointing, either because upper management lacked an understanding of the mortgage business or credit quality was not a priority, which translated into instability. This brought Robbins to a crossroads in his career path and to the decision to head in a different direction to be, as he put it, “in control of my own destiny.”
