ABSTRACT

I went to Vanderbilt medical school and could not apply to the MGH internship because I could not afford transportation from Nashville to Boston. In the spring, after the internship assignments, I was able to visit the MGH and inquire about residency. I was told that the MGH did not take new residents as all the interns stayed for residency. In February I was called and told that one of the interns decided to go into surgical pathology making an opening in the program. Of course I took it. Dr. Ed Hamlin, when I was scrubbing with him, said "I don't remember you as an intern." "No I interned at Vanderbilt." "What, you did not go to Harvard? You did not intern here? What are you doing here now?"
