ABSTRACT

This chapter addresses retail banking premises, post offices, ticket desks and government services outlets which are generally characterised by: the need for security of staff. Local authority council and other government or public offices which incorporate payment and counselling facilities include: Council Tax payment offices, Regional Passport Offices and Citizens Advice Bureau offices. Ticket desks in public facilities such as transport, sport and entertainment venues will often operate and be designed in a similar fashion to payment counters within banks. Building societies have become more like banks, if not actually taken over by mainstream banks. The building types and facilities are: banks, building societies, post offices, foreign currency outlets, ticket desks, government services outlets, ATMs and ATM lobbies, and interview spaces. The majority of these building types provide customer interview facilities. These range from simple desks in open public areas, to open-plan interview spaces directly off a public space, to fully enclosed interview rooms.
