ABSTRACT

Students are welcomed to the textbook with examples of famous researchers and scientists who made significant contributions to life. They learn that many of the things they use daily are the result of researchers’ efforts. Students get an historical perspective on research by briefly exploring how research relates to the culture in which it occurs, particularly contemporary culture. They are introduced to the notion that today’s culture is postmodern. They learn how communication research must change its practices if it is to be meaningful in the postmodern era.
