ABSTRACT
Why do state leaders seek power on the international stage? To further their state’s national interest. This is what Japan seeks to do through a national strategy which is more coherent and inclusive than it once was. How does Japan conceive its interests? Japan has a territory to defend, an economy to rebuild, but it also seeks the promotion of values as a way to further its interests. This is what this chapter shows.
