ABSTRACT

This chapter reviews some lessons from the experiences of Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) educators during the past nine years, identify some problems that are blocking further progress, and suggest some directions for the future. AIDS educators and activists need to help people visualize this world and connect their daily activities to making it happen. It will be a world where every one is entitled to comprehensive education about sexuality, drugs, and health; a world where those who need treatment for drug addiction can get it on demand; a world where basic health care is a right, not a privilege; a world where gay men and lesbians, women and people of color, are not discriminated against; a world where alternatives to drug use exist for the young people of this country; a world where no one has to die on the streets because there is no home for them.
