ABSTRACT

In recent years, as an instance of a vehicular ad hoc network, the telematics integrating the utility of telecommunications and informatics has dramatically promoted the development of wireless communications in vehicular environments, intelligent transportation systems, and the automotive electronics industry. Nowadays, IEEE 802.11p and IEEE 1609 family standards are called wireless access in vehicular environments (WAVE) standards, since they are developed to facilitate the provision of wireless access in vehicular environments. The WAVE technology is classified under dedicated short-range communications (DSRC). This chapter proposes two kinds of short-range communication technologies in the Internet of Vehicles, 'a self-adaptive V2V communication system with DSRC' and 'a bio-inspired QoS-oriented handover model in heterogeneous wireless networks'. Attractor selection is one type of bio-inspired mechanism that induces cellular gene expression to adaptively respond to the dynamically changing environment. The chapter focuses on developing the self-adaptive scheme embedded in the V2V communication system for transmission frequency configurations.
