ABSTRACT
The transformation of the political and economic systems of the countries of Central and Eastern Europe has been accompanied by processes whereby women have become marginalized from both an economic and political point of view. Even though women are underrepresented in the corridors of power, how many times have (male) politicians proposed to send women workers back to their homes to resolve the problems of (male) unemployment? The tendency to confine women to the private sphere illustrates the denial of women’s full citizenship.2
