ABSTRACT

The preaching of the Qurʼan by the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) could be classified as jihad of the tongue and pen to right wrongs in the world, as were the teachings of earlier prophets. Following this precedent, Muslims are told in the Qurʼan that there should be ʻa group of you inviting to what is good and forbidding what is bad ʼ(3:10). The Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) said:

The first caliphs of the Prophet understood that they were in power to serve the people, and were only ordinary human beings who could make mistakes. They urged the Muslims to correct them if they did wrong, and so they did. Later rulers were not so modest, but it remains the duty of the Muslims to correct them, as they must correct their imam in the prayer if he makes a mistake.
