ABSTRACT
Substantivized from the pronoun selv, the Danish Selv is comparable to the English “self.” The pronoun selv is often used in conjunction with the reflexive pronoun sig meaning “oneself.”1 The lexical meaning of the noun is one’s own personality, the ego, formerly also in the general meaning of (special) personality, character, nature, individuality.2
