Reduplikation is derived from Latin reduplicatio, via the Old Danish verb duplere or dublere, duplicere or duplikere. It is often translated into Danish as fordoble, dobblet, dublet. Its lexical meaning in Danish refers to the relation between original and copy (duplikat). It often refers to the exchange of legal documents concerning trade, such as bills of exchange and contracts.3 Re-is a prefix that refers to direction or place: back or again.4
