ABSTRACT

The great majority of Kierkegaard’s references to baptism occur in the Concluding Unscientific Postscript under the pseudonym “Johannes Climacus.” The pseudonym “Anti-Climacus” in Practice in Christianity has a few references to baptism, while the pseudonym “Johannes” in “The Seducer’s Diary” from Either/Or has one. In Kierkegaard’s signed works, Works of Love contains a few references, and Three Upbuilding Discourses from 1844 and The Moment each have one. Kierkegaard’s pseudonymous and signed use of the term “baptism” normally refers to the sacrament of initiation and inclusion into the Christian community.
