ABSTRACT

Karen Blixen, née Dinesen in 1885, emerged in the 1930s as a distinctive author hors catégorie, whose works were and are at a distance from the prevailing literary tendencies of that era, and which continue to provoke readers with their depth and playfulness. Her authorship is popularly known through her autobiographical tale of her life in Kenya, Out of Africa, and her anecdote of destiny, Babette’s Feast, both of which have enjoyed dramatization. Thus, the popular knowledge of Karen Blixen is nowadays due to the dissemination through the medium of film. But in her own time, Karen Blixen was a celebrated storyteller, who moved confidently amongst the intelligentsia in Denmark as well as with other celebrated artists, such as for example Marilyn Monroe and Arthur Miller.
