ABSTRACT

I delivered this paper at the European Association of Archaeologists conference held at Cork, Ireland, in 2005. Since this time, my memories of the event have become fragmented with gaps often appearing. My notes for the paper were originally typed, and I find that they are covered with handwritten scribbles, the results of last minute adjustments-the overlay and underlay of ideas. As such, and in following this mode, I present this paper as I remember and discover itas torn thoughts and disconnected connections. Following on from experiments elsewhere (e.g., Cochrane and Russell 2007), and inspired by film media, I opt to present ideas as free floating frame segments. You are invited to read them either in a conventional manner, or to dip in-and if something catches your interest, to maybe cast your eye to the nearby frames, reviewing the ideas there.1 Such a reading will in fact bring you closer to how I discovered my notes and written thoughts.
