ABSTRACT

Our thesis is that it is important to use visual media to link Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) and public involvement in planning processes. Using the full capabilities of available analytical technologies, such as Public Participant GIS (PPGIS), would instigate collaboration and interdisciplinarity between consultants while actively involving stakeholders and facilitating transfer of information understood by all parties. Interfacing PPGIS and context model databases used with conventional applications such as CAD to develop interactive 3D virtual reality models, combined with other visualization techniques, would improve public involvement and the process as a whole.
