Introduction Past Investigations

The idea of the integrated development of the Narmada basin for irrigation, power, flood control, navigation, fisheries, etc. was first mooted in 1945-46 by Shri A.N. Khosla, Chairman, Central Waterways, Irrigation and Navigation Commission. In 1946, at the request of the States concerned, a study of topography and preliminary reconnaissance was undertaken and seven sites were considered suitable for detailed investigation and preparation of projects.
