ABSTRACT

Shlomo Bekhor, Daniel Shefer and Mordechai Cohen Introduction This chapter is concerned with the development of an agricultural product and the spatial diffusion of innovations as an important element in the economic development of a rural region. Specifically, the chapter considers the development of greenhouse tomatoes and their spatial diffusion in the North Western region of the Negev in Israel. Two aspects of innovation diffusion will be dealt with: first, the selection of a specific tomato variety and, second, the choice of a fertilization technique.
