ABSTRACT

The early years of the new millennium have not been kind to the UK national newspaper industry as it has battled to slow the ebb of readers and advertisers to new and fragmented news sources. This historically fiercely competitive industry at times is seen as being like a group of shipwrecked sailors clinging to a life raft wondering who will be the first to slip off, with the guilty knowledge that the loss of one will delay the death of those remaining.
