ABSTRACT
The regional and local newspaper industries are where journalism connects with the everyday lives of readers. They give information and answer questions of direct and immediate concern to readers. Why have the bins not been emptied? What caused that traffic jam? How can children secure a place at the best secondary school? And they provide a forum where the electorate can tell those in authority precisely what it thinks about the decisions they make.
