ABSTRACT

The travelers from the foggy, cold and humid reaches of northern Europe found solace in the sweet climes of Italy. With languid minds more relaxed, they discovered a rapacious capacity to pursue all the muses of Apollo. Indeed, this sweet land of olive, cypress, and lemon trees, full of dazzling natural landscapes, mountains, lakes, prairies, dotted with ruins and relics of antiquity, of villages filled with surprisingly rich artistic diversity, presented itself as a singular opportunity to learn and to dream.
