ABSTRACT

We introduce to the aviation literature the use of the Hayes-Wheelwright (HW) Framework, which is often used in the operations literature, to evaluate the strategic effectiveness of air hubs. While providing information of three major air hubs on the Kangaroo and Euro-Sino routes using the case-based approach, we attempt to apply the HW framework and illustrate its use in the aviation industry. We demonstrate the usefulness of the framework as a strategic effectiveness audit instrument for air hubs, and highlight how it points to the direction for progress of such air hubs.
