ABSTRACT

Thus far we have examined cases of Protestant political parties in the First World (Western Europe, North America and Australasia) and in the formerly communist Second World (East Germany and the Baltic). But the largest number of such parties is now to be found in the Third World: in Asia and the Pacific, in Africa and, above all, in Latin America. While it may have been a surprise to some readers to find Protestant parties in countries such as Canada, Britain and Latvia, it will not have been a surprise to find Protestants. But as we move into the Third World, readers not familiar with the global religious changes of the last 50 years may be unable to place the parties we are going to meet in any larger context.
