ABSTRACT

As the human population increases there are simply more people using carbon-based fuels, resulting in more carbon emissions and therefore greater impacts on climate change. When global population triples during a single human lifetime – from 2.5 billion people in 1950, to over 7.0 billion in 2011 – then carbon emissions triple, bringing about the current crisis. The problem is further compounded as people move out of poverty, thus having more disposable income which contributes to an increase in their carbon footprint.
