ABSTRACT

In 2003, I attended the Global Reconciliation Network conference, ‘Thinking Through a Collapsing World’, in London. I went there to ask for help and advice. I was scared every morning when I sent my children to school and when I went to work. tried to guess which route would be the safest – should I drive through areas that had seen repeated suicide attacks or detour around them? Five years have passed since then and I am still scared. I am scared because both Palestinians and Israelis have elected governments that do not recognize the other side’s rights, hopes and dreams. I am scared by the experience of yet another war, the Second Lebanon War, and by the destruction, fear and hate that permeates the region.
