ABSTRACT

Solving a problem of theoretical philosophy with the assistance of mathematics is a path that certain philosophers and mathematicians have not hesitated to follow. We recently showed how, in Islamic philosophy, Naṣīr al-Dīn al-Ṭūsī faced the question of the emanation from the One with the help of combinations. 1 This logico-metaphysical example is far from unique: in metaphysics, in natural philosophy and philosophy of mathematics other works still await the study that they merit.
