ABSTRACT
During an era marked by unrest and political intrigue, amidst a chorus of rhetoricians and slick persuaders, the author referred to as the Anonymous Iamblichi stands out as a sober advocate for solidarity, justice and law. The Anonymous Iamblichi emphasizes the role of trust in a healthy society. The Anonymous Iamblichi considers two patterns of social interaction. The Anonymous Iamblichi argues that it is in our best interests to obey the law and care for others, for we cannot live in safety in a lawless society. Even someone blessed with superhuman abilities cannot flaunt the law. ‘If he should be invulnerable, not subject to disease, free from emotion, extraordinary and hard as adamant in body and soul, perhaps someone might believe that the power based on a consideration of one’s own advantage would be sufficient for such a man on the grounds that such a man is invulnerable even if he does not submit to the law.’.
