ABSTRACT
Modern citizenship rests upon configurations of patterned action that only rarely appear in combination. Even when seemingly securely established, its viability may be endangered by slight shifts. The complex route toward widespread acceptance of modern citizenship’s basic presuppositions is also a precarious one.
