ABSTRACT

Introduction Spain has played a critical role in the development of the Latin American telecommunications sector. The importance of Spain in this sector corresponds to its traditionally central role in the overall development of Latin America. Through financial investment and knowledge transfer, Spanish companies brought muchneeded service level improvements and tariff reductions throughout the region. As a key business infrastructure, improvements in telecommunications served as a catalyst for overall economic growth. By fostering the development of telecommunications, Spanish firms provided a key pillar for further investment and development in derivative and complementary sectors.
