ABSTRACT
In this chapter, I will introduce a previously unknown edition of the religious emblem book Levendige herts-theologie [Spirited eology of the Heart], absent in regular bibliographical surveys and scholarly literature (Figure 10.1 below).4 is volume was published in 1661 by Christoel Luyken in Amsterdam. It is a Dutch adaptation of the German emblem book Lebendige Hertzens-eologie by Christian Hoburg, which was itself inspired by Wierix’s famous cardiomorphic series of emblems Cor Jesu Amanti Sacrum.
