ABSTRACT

During the 1990s three green parties tried to enter the Dutch parliament. They competed in different leagues, however. The Partij voor Milieu en Recht (Party for Environment and Law), which also called itself Green Right, tried only once and received less than 0.1 per cent of the popular vote at the elections of the lower house (Tweede Kamer) in 1994. De Groenen (The Greens) tried until 1998, without winning any seats either; yet the party has remained active at the local level. Only the third party, GroenLinks (Green Left), did gain seats and has been represented in parliament until today.
