ABSTRACT

Higher education institutions continue to undergo fundamental change because of the influence of globalisation. This chapter discusses the issues which may have an impact on overseas students due to the change in culture and their surroundings which will vary depending on such factors as their initial expectations, their country of origin and previous knowledge and experience. It explores the concepts which may be related to the behaviour of students when interacting with their new environment. The chapter addresses the inner culture of higher education which works on some distinct levels and is an essential ingredient in the development of the system. It explains to understand social behaviour it is important to grasp the basics of human thinking which affect all human beings of all cultures. The chapter also explains how a student with language difficulties can be affected if the meaning is distorted, as they will not be able to transmit knowledge and information to English people and vice versa.
