ABSTRACT

Energy Development unable to address the mental risks associated with energy technologies. This defect can be corrected by proper extension of the sets of indicators by introducing a new group of risk related (RR) indicators for sustainable energy development (ISED), namely Mental Indicators, which correspond to types of mental resources and capacities, and include cognitive, emotional and moral indicators. In this way, one may talk about integrated risks from energy technologies, which besides the standard ones include also mental risks. In order to apply a correlative approach to energy technologies, incorporating risk and sustainability, the authors introduce the RR ISED, including indicators from the core set regarding three different types of risks related to air pollutants, wastes, and fatalities. The RR ISED quantify issues related only to material and energy resources and their impacts, omitting issues regarding mental resources and capacities involved in the processes of energy generation and use.
