ABSTRACT

A page in the New Minster Liber Vitae records a gift made to the Minster by Ælfgifu/Emma, twice married to kings of England.2 The list of gifts in which the record is included is now on folio 58, although originally it was inserted before the frontispiece. The Liber Vitae itself was begun in 1031, with additional folios added into the late medieval period. Nothing in the text of folio 58 indicates the date of the donation. The text reads:

ÞIS IS SE HALIDOM ðE IS ON ðAM GRECYSSCAN SCRINE ðE SEO HLÆFDIGE GEAF INTO NIƿAN MYNSTRE.
