ABSTRACT

The academic study of animal pleasure has no name, for it is, as yet, a mostly neglected field. today, there are at least 20 scholarly journals dedicated to the study of pain, yet none that focus on the study of pleasurable experience. This is curious, for while the cessation of pain and suffering may be more urgent for the individual experiencing them, the pursuit of pleasure is not only important to individual health and well-being, but also drives much of what humans-and as i shall argue, nonhumans-do in their daily lives.
