ABSTRACT

I was assisted in this endeavour by the classic work of the renowned French historian Fernand Braudel, The Mediterranean and the Mediterranean World in the Age of Philip II. Braudel’s global vision of history leads him to consider the Mediterranean not only in its geographical dimension, but also in its more human aspects, encompassing the political, social and economic spheres. In the process, he emphasizes two themes, technology and exchange.
