ABSTRACT

As I understand the matter, the ‘sense of faith’, the ‘sense of the faithful’ and the ‘consensus of the faithful’, while intimately related to one another, are also different from one another. For this reason, in this chapter I shall treat each of them in turn. Since I write as a Roman Catholic, I shall present an understanding of these notions which is generally shared by Catholic theologians, at least in its main lines. I am aware that some would differ on details of my presentation.
