ABSTRACT

There is now a well established understanding of biblical preaching as hermeneutical dialogue between the text of scripture and the worldviews of both the preacher and the listener. Such an understanding of biblical preaching places weight on critical interrogation both of the text itself and of the worldviews of preacher and listener. Preachers are trained to take individual differences seriously. The sermon prepared for the children attending the family service differs both in content and in presentation from the sermon prepared for the adults attending evensong. Individual differences like the age and the sex of the congregation are easy to recognise. The distinction between introversion and extraversion concentrates on different preferences for methods of learning. Individuals who prefer sensing perceive information primarily through their five senses. They attend to practical and factual details, and are in touch with physical realities.
