ABSTRACT

Environmental problems such as climate change, air and water pollution, loss of biodiversity, greenhouse emission, and deforestation are getting more severe as a result of increasing human ignorant behaviors. Sports, as an important part of human activities, generate a variety of impacts on ecosystems through generating waste from construction projects, athletic participants, and game spectators, noise and light pollution, soil and water pollution from pesticide use, and soil erosion during the construction of facilities. In numerous academic disciplines including, but not limited to, psychology, sociology, marketing, and advertising, researchers have developed or adopted various theories to explain the concepts of perception, attitude, intention, and behaviors, and how these components are interrelated. Research has shown that social exchange theory can be effective in studying residents' perceptions, attitude, and behavior. This chapter examines the potential mediation effects of attitude and intention on the relationship between perception and intention, and between attitude and behavior, at both individual and district levels, respectively.
