ABSTRACT

Jana Sanskriti initially evolved toward our work in theatre from our work as activists. The issues are not determined from the top down, from the central coordination of Jana Sanskriti, unless those of us in the central coordination hope to try to address a specific issue with the group that is pertinent in a particular context. Theatre of the Oppressed raises a very interesting point to which Jana Sanskriti is committed: we have to give intellectual space to the people. When Augusto Boal came to Jana Sanskriti in 2006 during our Muktadhara Forum Theatre festival, we organized a two-day conference, a document was discussed, and the Federation of Theatre of the Oppressed—India was born. Some young women and men from various places are getting trained by Jana Sanskriti thoroughly, and they will act as trainers at the national level.
