ABSTRACT

The year 2011 changed many things in regards to the performing arts in Egypt. It was the Egyptian revolution of 25 January, when almost 30 million Egyptians went out to the streets and squares and protested for 18 days consecutively, claiming social justice, freedom, and human dignity. The Egyptian population committed an act that was not only political; it was a human and emotional act of solidarity and bonding in confrontation with despotism, corruption, and the loss of the value of human life. From August 2012 the project expanded, creating what is known as “The Arab Network of the Egyptian National Project for Theatre of the Oppressed.” The group is considered to be the largest operating Forum Theatre group made of children in the Arab region. The first unit of “The Egyptian National Project for Theatre of the Oppressed” was created in Alexandria, with the support of the Arab Fund for Arts and Culture.
