ABSTRACT
This chapter seeks to provide a comprehensive review of the events, issues, and characteristics that have shaped Canadian perspectives on Arctic security. We argue that long-standing preoccupations with sovereignty; the rise of a Russian threat, real and imagined; and a growing emphasis on human security, while still building on traditional security, make Canada’s Arctic security context unique within the region.
