ABSTRACT

The Strength and Conditioning (S&C) coach plays a unique role within the dynamics of the team environment. On paper this comes down to being the professional with responsibility for ensuring that each individual within the team is adequately prepared to meet the physical demands of the sport for which they train. Much is written about the S&C coach needing to understand the demands of a sport, or a position, with a view to enabling the team to appear at the start of each competition fully physically prepared. Definitely true, but the unwritten rule within this generalisation is that every individual is different, so whilst the team may be on a schedule to enable them to prepare game to game, every individual player within that team is different. The primary ambition within the S&C programme is to create a performance training process that parallels the specific needs of each sport.
