ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the author describes his perspective on managing a major professional sport organisation with an emphasis on the challenge of managing different groups of people. The chief executive officers (CEO) role of a football club is not necessarily typical in France. An interesting question is whether being a CEO of a football club is different than being a CEO in other businesses, other industries. Leadership is linked to the behaviours and personality of people. That depends on the club, and sometimes coaches have a CEO or a general manager for the business and administration at a club, and other times the CEO/general manager is more for the sports organisation. Different organisations have different organisational charts, and the format for the CEO position really varies from club to club.
