ABSTRACT

The Inyandza National Movement was the governing party of the KaNgwane ‘homeland’ government. It was founded in October 1978 at Lochiel, a village with no more than a filling station a few kilometers from the Oshoek border post. It became a critical driving force of politics. There were various instances that signalled the developing relationship between the Inyandza National Movement and the African National Congress (ANC) during the incorporation. Tembuyise Simon Mndawe, one of the youth in the civil service of the KaNgwane government, decided to skip the country to be trained by the ANC in exile. The Inyandza National Movement was present throughout the transition period. Inyandza continued to be a driving force of every development in the KaNgwane government until 1994 when KaNgwane ceased to be a 'homeland' government. In 1995 the Inyandza National Movement was dissolved and its membership became the membership of the ANC.
