ABSTRACT
Here are some guidelines for proceeding through the thesis or dissertation process. These are not definitive; every thesis, every committee has its own idiosyncrasies. The advice and preferences of your advisor and committee members always take precedence. Nonetheless, these suggestions may prove helpful. And remember what an advisor of mine told me: “This dissertation may or may not be your first piece of research; hopefully, it won’t be your last piece of research; and almost certainly, it won’t be your best research. So just get it done!”
