ABSTRACT
The most efficient piece of advice I received that helped me finish my Ph.D. was given to me by a colleague when I was an instructor at a university. She implored me to decide on a research topic as soon as possible. She argued that the sooner I chose a topic the sooner I could begin reading and that I could then focus as many papers as possible in school on that topic, essentially killing two birds with one stone.
