ABSTRACT
Because there is no clear set of expectations for doctoral papers and examinations, I am taking this opportunity to write a friendly memo explaining my personal expectations for these examinations. I am listing here what I consider to be minimum requirements, requirements that, if satisfied, will greatly increase the likelihood that your work will be warmly received and favorably evaluated. Your comments and feedback on this document would be appreciated because I expect to revise it from time to time.
