ABSTRACT

This chapter shows that project managers will discover the integration of organisation learning, knowledge management and lessons learned within the project management organisation environment. It presents the Systemic Lessons Learned Knowledge (Syllk) model. When applied, the Syllk model can enable management to conceptualise how an organisational know-how is wired across various people and system elements of an organisation. Organisational learning is a field of practice that is focused on how groups and companies learn. Organisational learning from projects rarely happens, and when it does it typically fails to deliver the intended results. Earned Value Management (EVM) methodology involves the systematic tracking and recording of project cost and schedule performance. EVM performance information needs to be linked to other knowledge resources to adapt quickly to making changes to counter adverse trends and resolve project issues. The social process of storytelling and recording is an effective way to explore project issues, capturing their complexity and behaviours outside organisational norms.
