ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the mechanics of translating analytic strategies into software operations. In Chapter 1 we described translation in a general way as transforming strategies into tactics. In this chapter we describe the mechanics: a process of matching each analytic task to a software operation that leads either to selecting an existing software tool or constructing for oneself a combination of tools or using a tool in a custom way. The matching process involves framing both analytic tasks and features of the software in a way that facilitates the matching process.
