ABSTRACT

Children and adolescents develop and grow in a reasonably sequential and therefore, somewhat predictable manner. School counselors can use this knowledge productively as they plan and shape K-12 nonsexist, multicultural, nondiscriminatory guidance and counseling programs. Elementary, Middle/Junior and Senior High School, and K-12. These provide activities to expand awareness of choices, enhance skill building, and foster problem-solving in healthy personal/social, career/vocational, and learning development. Counselor interventions, regardless of their conceptual origin, aim to serve the needs of students who are expected to function in school settings in the various education, vocational, and personal-social domains. The other area that is part of a comprehensive K-12 guidance program is support and instruction in the area of learning. Guidance and counseling in the school has a particularly vital role to play when it comes to career/vocational development and the promotion of equity. Major changes are needed in the context, content, and concepts of career/vocational guidance and counseling that helps both student and society.
